3 ways to overcome procrastination

We all have days when we struggle to get our minds into the ‘writing zone’. All we want to do is watch TV in bed and our writing goals just end up taking the backseat. If you feel this way, don’t worry! Let us help you meet your writing goals so you can finally write and publish the book you have been dreaming about!

Here are three ways to overcome procrastination:

  1. 5-minute rule

Try to write for just 5 minutes. Set a timer, and spill whatever thoughts are in your mind onto a piece of paper or document. When the 5 minutes are over, you can stop writing if you really feel the need to stop, but most times people feel in the zone and ready to go!

  2. Rewards system

Reward yourself with something after you accomplish your timed goal. For example, you could reward yourself with screen time on your phone or a chocolate bar!

  3. Leave unfinished

This sounds counter-intuitive, right? It’s actually a great way to stop procrastinating! Once you start writing, instead of stopping at the end of a chapter, stop only after writing a few lines for the next one that you will write tomorrow. This unfinished nature of a task can cause the human brain to feel a sense of urgency to complete the task, and so you will want to get back to writing as soon as possible!

Try these techniques and let us know if they help you! With the right practices in place, you will write your book in no time…All the best!
