Mousumee Baruah

Silvery droplets pouring, such a treat
After scorching summer heat.

Earth no longer in silent mode
Comes out from hibernation zone

That earthy smell and musical sound
When rain caresses the barren like ground

Sound of raindrops
Falling on the rooftops.

Made me nostalgic
Flight of fancy so fantastic.

Took me to place of my birth
Where we played with joyful mirth.

When monsoon rain rocks
We used to dance like peacocks.

Sound of raindrops
Falling on rooftops

Mother preparing spicy snacks
Children sitting on a rugs and mats

Though she becomes fatigued
Working at a paddy field with her league

She cannot refuse her children and brothers
That’s the selfless love of mothers and sisters

Sounds of raindrops outside
Now create a void in me inside

My tears merge with rain
As I yearn for my mother’s love in pain.
