He would sense my school bus arriving
Joyfully running towards me, his tail wagging
His excitement, same on all days
His love expressed in many ways
He was epitome of true relationship
Taught me trust, expressive communication, respect and friendship
Abundance of love he gave naturally
I struggled to reciprocate even intermittently
Forever he remains my first love
For no human could give me such unconditional love
I fantasized my school crush as true soul mate
Soon to realise mutual expectation mismatch
I kept looking for those qualities that he had endorsed
Knowing well, those qualities cannot be enforced
My first love departed peacefully on his end date
Leaving me with an expectation, that I surrendered to fate
