Lalita Iyer Vaitheeswaran (On that Street | Certificate of Appreciation (poetry))

Take me to those lanes again
where childhood in gay abandon lay
Those colourful flowers and Hide and seek
Those wild pranks with peers to play

The sweltering summer heat and sweat
A soft whiff of breeze then to cool
A jump in the splashy muddy puddles
It was no match to today’s pools

Completely drenched in the downpour
I want to walk on that street again
Sailing paper boats on the small rivulets
Oh take me back to that nostalgic lane

The Vibrant rainbow and its trail
Where fluttering Butterflies sang in glee
The kites with their long swishing tails
And Birds were on a chirping spree!

I stand in awe peeping at the windows
Of the lovely lively nostalgic past
Where happiness was measured in terms of joy
Giving us memories that for lifetime last
