Archana Zutshi (Category-Poem) (Grandmom’s Tales | Certificate of Excellence)

Grandmom seemed to be awaiting us.
Her slender form in cool muslin summery drape.
As we snuggled getting wisps of her quaint perfumes.
In contrast was the awe inspiring city circle,
Ostentatiously a regal imposing nugget,
Of dynastic monarchy and the colonial past,
Oft we tugged along with in her routine errands to the magnificent marketplace!
A doting Grandmom forever active,
A conscientious social empath, unfailing in her neighbourly duties.

Grandmom kept a check on the naughty goofing grandchildren.
No one could outwit her
She would confront a defiant brat,
And pronounce a disciplinary dictum pat!
She gave us all a patient ear–
Simply smiled at our stories from ear to ear

Her culinary skills to date unmatched.
We leapt briskly to the door keenly responding
To the cries of the candyman post lunch,
After all the mangoes we had happily devoured.
In the rounds of Ludo and chess
Our Granny too would join us in the afternoons.
Our evenings were dotted with funny anecdotes and stories.
A wholesome time with Grandmom is all a happy memory now!
