Yay! The coldest time of the year is back!
The season of white snow, warm and gentle sun
With long chilly nights and great fun!
The coldness outside thawed by the warmth inside
Those fireplace meets and Christmas lights
Snowy evenings were set alright
With the strong aroma of ginger and pumpkin
Life’s bliss no matter what season we’re in.
And, so when the dusk entered,
We, siblings, rush to the fireplace,
Snuggling around blankets,
Cuddling around grandpa’s rocking chair
Eagerly waiting for him to arrive
With his books and experience to share,
We get ready for a heart-warming storytelling session
Often interspersed by everybody’s friendly banter.
Tears roll down my cheeks and I realise
It’s just a dream, a nostalgic time travel
Gone are those spotless days and those wrinkled faces,
Today, the fireplace is still lit, the lights still shine
Ginger and pumpkin still produce a strong aroma,
But, lacking the fervour of the yesteryear
The abandoned childhood still haunts
Can I not go back to those smiling days again?
